Do you sleep in the nude? Or do you wear PJs to bed? Of course, you cover up during winters and shed (partially or fully) come summer. Well, according to experts, it’s better to sleep without your underwear. Apparently, keeping them on during sleep creates an environment that is conducive to the growth of bacteria and yeast. Ick!
Dr Alyssa Dweck, co-author of V Is For Vagina, said,
“I often tell my patients to sleep without underwear. If [the area] is constantly covered – especially by a fabric that’s not moisture-wicking or absorbent – moisture collects, [creating the] perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast.”

And Dweck suggests that women who are prone to itching and scratching and irritation down there, should forego their undies for sure.
She continued, saying, “If there’s every a time to break out the granny panties, this would be the time.” Apparently, loose-fitting cotton undies are better if you’re not comfortable going commando.
It’s not just women who have to chuck their undies either. It seems that the same rational applies to men as well.
Urologist Brian Steixner told Men’s Health,
“Your drawers keep heat and moisture in – and bacteria thrive in warm, moist environments.”

Advising the same to men, he said,
“Your scrotum needs to be just the right temperature in order to optimize sperm production. More bacteria makes for a higher likelihood that any chafed or irritated skin down there becomes infected.”
So, men, no more tight boxers or briefs while sleeping. Either loose-fitting cotton ones or nothing at all, unless you want to risk your fertility.
Apart from the fertility issue or the infection issue, there are added benefits of foregoing your undies. Shawn Stevenson, author of Sleep Smarter, told Mic,
“Cooling down will lower your blood pressure, which in turn helps your body activate its ‘rest and digest system’ – otherwise known as the parasympathetic nervous system. Cooling down also helps the body release certain hormones and reparative enzymes.”
So go ahead and chuck your undies. Be free, be infection-free, and be healthy. Rock that birthday suit like you own it and sleep without your underwear. After all, your health is more important than shame! 😛
