Shooting a royal wedding is a dream for any wedding photographer and Hugo Burnand has lived that dream quite a few times. A regular photographer for Tatler magazine and many high profile socialites, Hugo was the photographer for Kate Middleton and Prince William’s marriage. Recommended by Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, this wasn’t Hugo’s first royal wedding as he also was the official photographer for Prince Charles and Camilla’s wedding.

1. Go with the flow

Whatever kind of weather, you should embrace it and take photographs accordingly.
2. Manipulate Kids
Give them chocolate or something and make them act for the photograph.

3. Don’t rule out traditional
Doing traditional things can really help your imagination and further traditional is timeless and can stay for a long time.
4. Encourage your guests
Apart from the professional photographer you should also encourage your guests to take photographs.
5. Use your every asset

From architecture to natural light to mirrors, use everything and every asset that is available to you.
6. Include car shots
In car, you look relaxed and further lighting is also interesting as it comes from two sides.
7. Have patience
Clicking a classic portrait takes time, have patience and discuss about the arrangements with your photographer. Sometime it could take about half hour so plan accordingly.
8. Hire a photographer with an assistant

Hiring an assistant photographer is immensely helpful, as you’ll get different angles and perspective. Also, several important moments can happen at the same time and if you don’t want to miss any of those moments then, hiring an assistant is the best option for you.
9. Inspect the location with your photographer
Before the wedding, discuss your imagination and explain the same to your photographer. Visit the wedding location and be aware of the limitations and opportunities that are available to you.
10. Know when to make eye contact with the camera
After the wedding when you’ll look at the photographs, then you don’t want to look awkward. So, understand when you have to look and when not to look at the camera.
11. Be candid

All shots are not required to be formal, just ask the photographers to click random and casual pictures in between the formal ones.

12. Feature confetti
Sometimes, items like confetti, lavender and rice can really be helpful in beautifying your photograph.
13. Let kids be kids
Manipulating kids can do wonders, but photographs of children looks best when they are captured with their natural expressions.
14. Don’t be serious all the time

15. Stand closer to the photographer
If you’re the bride then stand closer to the photographer and get beautiful pictures.
16. Fake things
Posing might feel wrong but, it is as important as clicking real pictures since, sometimes real things are not actually that good.
17. Be yourself

Using the light in various ways can bring most out of your picture. You can also shoot in the sun against the rules and still end up with wonderful photograph.
