[Year end special] Top 10 most romantic Bollywood dialogues of 2014

Ishq de mere mitra pehchaan kee, mit javay jadoon zid apnan dee..

I am always filmi, ALWAYS. But last night, my better half decided to indulge the ‘drama queen’ in me by talking to me in my favorite language – Bolly-jabi!! One of my favorites that came up during this helluva hour of laughter, blushing, swooning, revving up the ‘drama’ and blushing some more was ‘Tu original piece hai, maloom hai na tujhe? Aisa doosra nahi hai,’ and ohh-did-my-heart-go-aflutter!! <blush blush>

I have always been a fan of Bollywood and more so of its romantic lines – in verse, in prose, in cheese and of course, in SRK-ese! (A minute for my heart to dream of Shah Rukh!) 😉 And these words are my magical ride to the land of unconditional love, dotted with blooming hearts.

I am the girl who goes weak in the knees when Raj from DDLJ says, Mujhe chahiye ek aisi ladki, jisse dekhte hi dil ki har aarzoo, saare khwaab, saare rang zinda ho jaaye, abhi aisa hua nahi, lekin ab lagta hai jaise koi andekha anjaana chehra baadalon mein se pukaar raha hain. Pata nahi ye baadal kab hatenge, aur kab woh pukaarne waali saamne aayegi.’

I am the Simran who smiles recognizing the dream: ‘Aisa pehli baar hua hai satrah athrah saalon mein, andekha anjaana koi aane lagaa khayalo mein, aankho ki khidki par ik saayaa saa lehraataa hai, dil ke darwaze par koi dastak dekar jaataa hai, gehri gehri kaali aankhe mujhse mujhko poochhti hain, haatho ki rekhao mein ik chehra saa ban jaataa hai, uski saanse resham jaise gaalo ko chhu jaati hain, uske haatho ki khushbu hai ab tak mere baalo mein. Aisa pehli baar hua hai satrah athrah saalon mein, andekha anjaanaa koi aane lagaa khayalo mein.’

I am the Megha who can’t stop herself from loving her Raj, even after death because, Mohabbat bhi zindagi ki tarah hoti hai, har mod aasaan nahin hota, har mod par khushi nahin milti, par jab hum zindagi ka saath nahin chhodte, to mohabbat ka saath kyon chhodein.’

I am the girl who sheds countless tears when Veer says, Main nahi jaanta ke mohabbat kya hai…haan Zaara ke liye dil se ek dua zaroor nikalti hai ki iss ki aankhon mein kabhi ansoo na aaye, woh hamesha khush rahe…ab agar ye mohabbat hai to mohabbat hi sahi.’

And I know that the nation (the world, I think) is filled with millions like me! As such, it was impossible to overcome the temptation to string together a list of such magical Bolly-words that melted a few hearts and completely conquered many more for the year-end special series. You know when they say ‘find what you love and let it kill you,’ I concur, nodding and smiling away with each tiny sip of my poison – words. So, here’s my heart-picked list of the most romantic Bollywood dialogues of 2014. Let these words bring you tons of smiles and do not hesitate to breathe them to life:

1. Tum oxygen ho aur main double hydrogen … hamari chemistry ek dum pani ki tarah hai.

Movie: Hasee Toh Phasee

One of the most refreshing takes on love in a long time, this movie scored purely for its move away from the mainstream romance sagas. The unusual chemistry between simple Nikhil and whacky Meeta was indeed ‘cuckin’ frazy.’ Full of crazy energy, this movie’s dialogues were the hallmark of its unconventional essence. This dialogue was one that Meeta uses to express how the two of them belong together. Well, we say – naturally! J This one is unique, quirky, offbeat and yet, adorable! Undoubtedly, the ‘cuckin’ frazy’ way to say we are meant to be! 😉

2. Main, Krrish Malhotra, aap sab se shaadi karna chahta hoon.

Okay, I know you are thinking what’s romantic in that! But, rewind to the time when you saw the film. Remember the scene when our charming Punjabi munda seeks his lady love’s family’s acceptance over lunch? Yes, that’s right. This one scores 200 points and more, merely for the beauty of the thought. In a country like ours, where marriage is much more than the union of two souls, this scene had me grinning ear to ear. I knew he was selling himself as an ideal match but the fact that he’d pop the question to Ananya’s entire family, with four rings set on the table – oh my! One of the sweetest gestures I ever saw! And the fact that my hero held my hand to his heart when I had caught the show didn’t help my melting heartbeats. Mush, mushy and mushier, this one is just perfect. The guy – more so! So, for all those guys who wish to pop the question, look out. Arjun just set the standards sky-high! 😉

3. Andhere ko andhera nahi, sirf roshni mita sakti hai, nafrat ko nafrat nahi, sirf pyaar mita sakta hai … bas zaroorat hai kisi ke haath ki … jo kheench kar usse andheron mein se ujaalon mein laa sake.

One of the most popular dialogues of the movie, this one has won hearts for its impact. Coming at a moment when Shraddha Kapoor wishes to bring out the sun amidst the dark clouds that dot Sidharth’s lifescape, this one is ‘believable’ played at its best. Anywhere else, this would have been plain dramatic but in this movie, it comes off as convincing, compulsory, and even charming! Followed by the track ‘Banjaara,’ wherein Sidharth describes how he seems to have found a home in her, it only becomes all-the-more-romantic!

4. Yaad aaye kahiin to ittila zaroor kijiyega, hum bhi dhoondh rahe hain kab se apne aap ko.

Movie: Dedh Ishqiya

The most quotable love quote of the film, this one is a classic. Penned by the brilliant Vishal Bhardwaj, this one scores for reviving the old-world charm of Urdu poetry. When Naseer voices these lines in his charismatic voice, Madhuri’s expression is to die for. If you want to make your woman swoon, this expression in love’s own voice is a surefire way to achieve that!

5. Jahan se tum mujhe laye ho, main wahan wapas nahin jana chahti, jahan bhi le jaa rahe ho wahan pahuchna nahin chahti, par ye raasta, ye bahut accha hai, main chahti hoon ke ye raasta kabhi khatm na ho.

Movie: Highway

One of the major hits of the year, Highway, was an incredibly beautiful presentation of the journey of self-discovery whilst also finding love on the way. This dialogue epitomizes the same. And you have to hear Alia deliver it so convincingly to ‘breathe’ in its beauty. If you are one of those rare people who believe in the beauty of the journey of life, this is your tipple. Go, get high with this dialogue from ‘Highway.’

6. Ishq ke saat mukaam hote hain- dilkashi, uns, mohabbat, akeedat, ibaadat aur junoon.

Movie: Dedh Ishqiya

I know there are only six in there. Naseer refrains from naming the seventh – ‘maut.’ Quite deep and intense, this one lays bare the steps, in gradation as it were, of falling in love. There is something hauntingly beautiful in this philosophical dialogue and it is difficult to put a finger to this something. All I can describe is the feeling it evokes – one of something stirring within you as you fight to breathe it out and it struggles to capture your heart. Which wins – is an answer you should find yourself!

7. Pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam, har kami hum gawara kar lenge.

Movie: Bewakoofiyaan

An evergreen line of love, this one is a remarkable poetic rendition of – I can brave all voids save for that of your love! Sends me to the moon! And if someone as charming as the dimpled Ayushmann is saying it, God save me! You see, it isn’t without reason that we want to frequent ‘tohdi galli,’ especially when the ‘hokah’ is teamed up with a killer line like this! 😉

8. Jab tak hum kisi ke humdard nahi bante na, tab tak hum dard se aur dard hum se juda nahin hota.

Love is the only life-force that heals wounds, painlessly pulls off scabs, helps light up the dark recesses of your heart, and drives away negativity. If your heartbeats are entwined with those of your soul mate and you inevitably share in their joys and sorrows, you’d know exactly what Shraddha Kapoor is talking about here. Thank your ‘humdard’ for being there through thick and thin and let them know you’d be with them forever and ever, until the end of time.

9. Bande perfect nahi hote, rishte perfect hote hain.

Movie: Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

A very simple dialogue from the Varun-Alia starrer, this one is delivered in the most striking manner. Powerful for its delivery and impact, this exemplifies a beautiful truth about relationships – a person might not be perfect by himself or herself, but they might be the ‘perfect’ partner for you. Short, crisp, and ‘emotionally loaded,’ this one wins for its underlying conviction of building a ‘perfect’ whole from two ‘not-so-perfect’ halves. Ring any bells, anyone? 😉

10.  Love never dies, it’s always there, somewhere … and sometimes you just have to find it.

Movie: Finding Fanny

An idea that Bollywood has been toying with since ages, this one is on the list for ‘the moment.’ And for those of you who have seen the movie, I am extending my ‘ohh-you-so-know-what-I-am-talking-of’ mental high-five with you. As for the rest, please go watch it! It’s raw, real and romantic – a combination hard to come by! J

So, there it is- my favorite picks of the year. Oh, how I wish that Bollywood never stops doling out these tickets to my magical land! 😉
