If you are on this side of the fence and know what it’s like to be the one who is always cancelling plans, you’ve probably faced the music far too many times! But you know that’s not the worst part about cancelling plans- the worst part is actually cancelling plans. Especially so, when you’d been so iffy about the whole idea. Doofus- no matter how many times you call yourself out on the sh*tty mistake, you never learn! We don’t blame you- we know the pain…
So, to all of us who land up effortlessly in a plan but have to bail the last minute, here’s the drill you know all too well…
1. The first step – second thoughts

Scrolling down your Twitter account, you suddenly realize it’s only an hour to the get-together tonight and this is where the second thoughts hit.
2. You come to the conclusion that you simply can’t stick to the plan

It’s just impossible- so less time and so much to do (of course, I mean getting ready). So why not just call it quits this once (just like you did last time, and before that, ha!)
3. It’s the time for a ‘what do I do’ roundabout march in the room

But what do you do, then? Ah, put on the ‘thinking’ shoes to pace around till some solid and unbeatable solution strikes your mind- though you know you aren’t going to get original in the next five minutes!
4. The ‘cooking up the perfect excuse’ phase
Making an impossible-to-see-through excuse is the only way out. But you know you’ll only pick one from the beaten-to-death reasons like work, boss, overtime, and ‘them!’
5. You rehearse and re-rehearse the excuses to master a tone that’s almost convincing- almost

The success mantra of every excuse is making it sound heartfelt and you are a pro at playing the real victim, so ace the sound, pal.
6. But you can’t drop the ‘I’m off’ bomb on them without a promising compensation, right?
Isn’t this correct? So, always finish with a masterstroke of – ‘But, I’ll try my best to….’ And fit in exactly what they want to hear- that’s it!

7. And just when you hear an ‘okay’ from the other end, it’s Christmas!

Ah, thank the heavens! They took the bait and the annoying burden of the plan is finally off your back! All it took was an emotional ‘please understand.’ #TheMagicSpell
8. It’s the phase where you plan your free ‘me time’

All you do is jump into your pajamas, switch on your favorite sitcom and order a pizza! LARGE!
9. The waiting takes you back to square one – ‘the second thoughts zone’

Pizza’s still not here, I could have been at the party!
Oh, I should’ve been!
I shouldn’t have lied to them!
I’m such a bad-bad person!
10. Venting the guilt to the BFF (or mom, of course!)

You lighten the fresh burden of guilt by letting your BFF in on the secret of what a terrible person you acted like. You tell them EVERYTHING! The sinful second thoughts, the crooked planning, the wicked excuse, and even the evil-laughter you cracked on getting the ‘me-time!’
11. You feel relieved and redeemed
But when they convince you it’s all right and not your fault, you instantly feel better. May be you really were over thinking all this.
12. You lose yourself in the lazy goodness and the world comes back on its axis!

Finally, the doorbell rings, it’s the pizza and the serial is back from the break. You end up leaving the past in the past and enjoy your happy present happily.
The next time- REPLAY! 😛
