According to a new study by researchers at Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea, the height difference between a married couple is directly proportional to their marital bliss. The greater the height difference between a couple, the more happy the wife’d be. And let’s admit it already, a happy wife = a happy marriage! 😉

After analyzing the data received from over 7,850 women from a long-term population survey, researchers found a greater height difference in a couple positively correlated to the wife’s happiness- although the effect seems to wear off over time and takes 18 years to fully evaporate! Now 18 years is a long time to be happy, no?
“The long period of the dissipation indicates a powerful impact of male height on women’s psychology, probably prepared by evolution,” said lead researcher Kitae Sohn.
“Although it has been known that women prefer tall men in mating for evolutionary reasons, no study has investigated whether a taller husband makes his wife happier.”
According to a 2014 study by Rice University and the University of North Texas titled “Does Height Matter? An Examination of Height Preferences in Romantic Coupling,” 48.9% of women preferred to date someone taller and Kitae lists out why this may be so.
“One is the intrinsic value of height; that is, women simply like tall men, while unable to say why. This is similar to people favoring fatty, salty, and sugary foods without knowing exactly why: such foods are essential to survival but were scarce as humans evolved – hence craving such foods increased reproductive fitness in the past.”

Kitae also mentions that the female gravitation toward male height also has a bearing on female fertility. Women who prefer taller spouses have increased reproductive fitness.
But when questioned about why such an effect comes with an expiration date of 18 years, Kitae was stumped. He said that they do not have answers to why such an effect dissipates over the course of eighteen years but are extremely confident about the positive correlation and a powerful one at that for the first two decades of marriage!
Do I see tall spouses smiling?
Oh yeah!
