It is 2019 already and I’m sure you must be looking forward to a refreshing year as well. Each year, we are given an opportunity to redefine ourselves and try new things. While the idea of New Year’s resolutions is not new, we all are guilty of making (and breaking) them.
I don’t know much about you, but I find it quite tough to follow my plans and have broken almost all the resolutions of the last year. That’s why this year is so important for me. I want to work on New Year’s resolution 2019 that I can actually follow and feel accomplished. I really need that – a win. I haven’t lost weight, didn’t move my city, and still have a pending to-do list. This year, it will be different as I will take one step at a time. Here are some easy-to-accomplish resolutions that I plan to work on (and so can you).

- I will keep myself hydrated
It might sound surprising, but more than 70% of people suffer from dehydration at least once a year. It happens to me a lot of times as well. I get so engrossed with my work and other things that I often forget to drink water.
This year, I will keep my body hydrated and drink enough water. To start with, you can simply calculate the ideal amount of water that your body needs (according to your BMI). Once it is done, use an app, set manual reminders, or get smart water bottles with inbuilt alarms. There are literally so many ways to remind yourself to drink more water every day.
- I will give my body the sleep it deserves
We often take sleep for granted and end up binge-watching a series or simply overworking at night. Make sure that your New Year’s resolution 2019 would give priority to your sleep. According to experts, adults should sleep for around 6 to 8 hours a day. Though, if you spend a significant part of your day in front of a screen, then you might consider resting more.
To make sure that you have a relaxing sleep, you can go to bed 30 minutes in advance. Listen to some soothing music or read a book. Try to resolve your inner conflict and calm your mind.
- I will follow a more active lifestyle
This is probably the most important New Year’s resolution that I plan to accomplish. I have been following a sedentary lifestyle all this time, but this year it would be different. You can also do the same by making small changes in your lifestyle. For instance, you can take the stairs instead of elevators, take a break every 30 minutes to stretch a bit, and can even go on a morning jog.
Apart from that, you should also pay some attention to the kind of food that you are consuming. Also, keep a track on your weight and make sure that you don’t gain extra weight this year.
- I will clear the clutter from my life
I have a never-ending to-do list that keeps cluttering every year. Not just that, my physical and mental space is also quite cluttered and I plan to clear all of that this year. Stop procrastinating and finally complete all the pending work by taking one day at a time.
In addition to that, make sure that every part of your life is free of clutter – physically, mentally, and spiritually. Get rid of the physical things that you no longer need and align your furniture in such a way that you would have more space around you. Clear your thoughts and your inner self.
- I will have a relaxing morning ritual
I used to be a morning person, but somewhere down the line, my lifestyle got changed. This year, it will be different. If you want to kickstart your day with positive thoughts and a healthy mind, then work on a relaxing morning ritual.
From deep breathing practice to mindful-meditation, there are tons of morning rituals that you can follow. Explore a morning ritual that would go well with your schedule and try to make it an evident part of your day. Trust me – you would sense a positive change in your life from day one.
- I will get rid of toxic relationships
Having a toxic relationship is probably one of the worst things in the world. It can change you entirely and not for the good. If you really want this year to be relaxing, then you need to let go of every toxic person from your life. Yes, it might not be the easiest thing to do, but you need to work hard to save yourself.
While a lot of people identify toxic relationships with their romantic partner, you might have a toxic parent or a friend as well. Start by identifying the type of toxic relationship you have and gradually cut ties with them.
- I will have more time for myself
The last year was quite stressful and I was not able to give enough time to myself. To be honest, my happiness and sense of satisfaction took a back seat this year. I didn’t give time to my own hopes and dreams that made me regret afterward. This year, I will make sure that I give more time to myself and work on the things that I have been procrastinating for so long.
- I will resolve my work conflict
It has been said that our work should be a part of our life, yet a lot of us makes it our whole world. To be honest, my whole life revolves around my work, which isn’t the best thing. This year, I will try to resolve the conflicts related to my work and make sure that I would feel more fulfilled.
Try to work on the things that make you happy and satisfied. If there is something that makes you stressed and anxious, then choose to let it go. Remember, you are not solely born to work. There is so much more to life than your job.

- I will reduce my carbon footprint
A while back, I calculated my carbon footprint and it made me realize how much am I taking away from the planet instead of giving it back. You should do the same and try to attain a more environmental-friendly lifestyle.
There are some small changes that you can make to reduce your carbon footprint. For instance, eat more organic food, take public transport, recycle more often, reduce your trash, consume less plastic, restrict your water or electricity usage, etc.
- I will save more
I have been guilty of spending a lot in the last few years. If you are serious about your future, then try to save more this year. I’m not saying that you should stop living your life altogether. Live in the moment and make the most of today, but also make sure that you have something for your tomorrow.
You can explore a saving scheme that will give fruitful results a few years down the lane. I would recommend saving around 25% of your income to make sure that you have a financially secure future.
- I will cut out the junk food consumption
If you are also a foodie like me, then you need to follow this New Year’s resolution 2019 as well. While eating junk food every once in a while is okay, you should not binge on it. Count your calories and exercise more often to burn the extra fat as well. Remember, your body is a temple and you need to consume healthy food if you want to treat it the right way.
- I will travel more
Some of my best moments of the last few years were made while traveling. Just give it a thought. Do you remember the time you spend while working in a cubicle? We certainly remember the memories we have made while traveling or being with our loved ones. Try to go to some unexplored places or simply go on a solo trip. It will give you a chance to know yourself like never before.
- I will read at least one book a month
They say books are our best friends for a reason. I used to read a lot, but the last few years changed that habit. If you have the same story, then make sure that 2019 would be different. Come up with a list of books that you have to read this year. Even if you are busy, you can read at least one book a month without much hassle.
- I will start working for a cause
Last year, I volunteered a bit and it turned out to be an extremely fulfilling experience. I will make sure that I will do more for the people around me this year as well. This will be one of the easiest resolutions to follow for sure.
Just pick a cause and do whatever you can to work on it. From women’s rights to suicide prevention and cancer awareness to human trafficking – there are literally thousands of causes out there that need our attention.
- I will reconnect with my lost friends and family
When was the last time when you spent a whole day with your loved one? If you had to take a pause to remember it, then it is high-time you work on this resolution. I’m sure there must have been some amazing people in your life whom you are no longer in touch with.
They are just a text or call away. Make an effort in order to get in touch with your lost friends, family, and loved ones this year. It will be worth the effort and you would certainly feel better as well.
- I will be more grateful
Last, most importantly, I will just be more grateful to the universe. Instead of focusing my energy on what I’m missing, I will try to be more grateful for the things I already have in my life. I have loving people around me, a healthy body and mind, a beautiful home, and literally a thousand other things to be grateful for. The key to happiness is not money or fame – its gratitude. Practice it every morning and you will certainly feel more accomplished.
