When Ariel Winter posted a happy picture of herself enjoying a sunny day boat-ride with her nieces, she must have thought to herself, ‘whoa, there’s some cuteness overdose wrapped in sunny smiles going out into the world.’ Little did she know that her innocent picture shall soon bring in an avalanche of negative comments- ranging from straight-up judgmental attacks to a slew of invectives, some of them calling her out for being just 17 and baring her body to the world, and others dissecting her body parts verbatim, declaring her a ‘slut’ who was ‘asking for it.’

But the 17-year old Modern Family star, who has dealt with some real batsh*t flak for her personal choices (including her recent breast reduction surgery) took the haters to task and called them out for their blatant body shaming. By sticking to her guns for the indeed innocuous picture of her nieces clad in cute hats and life vests while she stands behind in a bandeau bikini top and undies and uploading another picture of a woman’s legs with a ruler like gradation with words ranging from ‘prudish’ and ‘old-fashioned’ on one end to ‘asking for it’ and ‘slut’ on the other – so as to indicate the association between hemlines and their perception with her clap-back response, Ariel Winter has spoken for girls all across the globe.

Who knew that an innocent photo with my nieces would turn into this? The height of a girl’s skirt or whatever she is wearing for that matter, does not imply what she is asking for. It sickens me to think at 17 years old, a photo of myself with my nieces is suggesting that I’m “asking for it”. I typically never give power to the mean things people bravely say behind their computer screens on the Internet, but this is for the girls who are constantly bullied whether it be online or at school… You are not asking for anything because of what you are wearing—you are expressing yourself and don’t you ever think you deserve the negativity as the consequence to what you are wearing—YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Celebrate you and don’t let anyone’s comments allow you to think less of yourself. Us girls have to stick together!!!!!!
