Domestic violence – just the two words bring to mind the picture of a battered, bruised, and possibly bloodied woman’s face. Although men have been known to be victims of domestic violence, it’s this chilling picture of a beat up woman that is compelling. And the stats are sad, to say the least.
While one in four American women will be a victim of domestic violence during her lifetime, an incident of domestic violence is reported in India – every five minutes. The stats are staggering for both countries, and it just goes to show that however developed or developing a nation might be, domestic violence is something that needs to be addressed, and soon.

November 25th has been earmarked as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and it has the full support of the United Nations too. To raise awareness about domestic violence and to urge the victims to speak out about their abuse, artist and social activist aleXsandro Palombo has used pictures of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, her younger half sister Kendall Jenner, Kristen Stewart, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and many more, for a powerful new photo series.

Palombo has released eight shocking, and not to mention, disturbing images of these celebrities with bruises and marks on their faces and necks. The photo series, titled “No Woman Is Immune To Domestic Violence,” shows each of the celebrities’ pictures which have been retouched to appear battered, bruised, and some, bloodied too. His intention is to reflect the sad truth about how abused women look and how it changes their appearance.

With the powerful statement, “Life can be a fairytale if you break the silence,” emblazoned on the picture series, Palombo hopes to encourage abused women to overcome their fear and speak out against their abuse and their abusers. It’s the sad truth that so many women who are victims of domestic violence, do not speak out against it because either they’re ashamed of being victimized or they are fearful of their abusive partners harming them – more, if they are not silent on the issue.

Talking to HollywoodLife, Palombo said that he wanted to do whatever was in his power to fight against domestic violence. He said,
“Everybody has to do their part to eliminate violence against women. As an artist, I wanted to tell the world to break the silence, because this silence kills.”

Further, Palombo said,
“Domestic violence is a social cancer that knows no boundaries or social status. It can affect anyone, whether you’re an ordinary person or a celebrity.”

That is absolutely true, for celebrities like Rihanna, Tina Turner, Kelly Rowland, and Halle Berry have spoken out about being victims of domestic abuse and shown their courage and fortitude.
Although the photos of these female celebrities have just been retouched to look like they’ve been victims of domestic violence, its effect is chilling nonetheless. If you are being abused or suspect a friend/relative is a victim of domestic violence, you need to speak up about it – NOW.
