The 25-year-old Academy Award winning actress scooped up a cool $52 million pre-tax over the last 12 months to be crowned the best paid actress in the world! The pretty actress, who has proven time and again that she’s not just a pretty face but possesses enviable acting chops too, has earned a whopping $16.5 million more than the runner-up, Scarlett Johansson. However, despite this, she is decidedly far behind the highest paid actors in the world.

You just have to look at who tops the highest paid actors list and how much he earned in the same period to know how deep is the chasm between what men and women get paid in the entertainment industry. Iron Man aka Robert Downey, Jr. took home the crown of highest earner with a staggering $80 million, despite appearing in just three movies since 2014. This is far from what Lawrence made in the same period. It just goes to show that Hollywood is no stranger or different than any other work place when it comes to unequal pay for men and women.

For the first time ever, the Forbes list took into account world’s highest-paid actresses to create a global list, which was truly global. However, despite the broader evaluations, only one non-American made it to the list – Chinese actress Bingbing Fan, who secured the fourth position with estimated earnings of $21 million.
Jennifer Lawrence took home the crown of being the highest paid actress in the world after unseating last year’s winner, Sandra Bullock, who dropped to the 15th position this year, with no mega releases to her name.
