Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are one of Hollywood’s most liked and likeable couple, who have also been the poster couple for a happy and healthy relationship. Despite speculations that the couple is headed towards a split, I’d hoped that the rumors and gossip were just that – imaginary, mere smoke without a fire. Alas, that’s not the case at all.

Monday, 29th June, the couple celebrated a decade of togetherness. And on Tuesday, they confirmed that they had split and were getting a divorce.

The news was first confirmed by People magazine. In a joint statement to the magazine, the couple has said,
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
Affleck, 42, and Garner, 43, are parents to three adorable kids – Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. Both stars were often seen around Los Angeles on coffee runs, carpool, and other assorted after-school activity outings with their three kids.
While they’re sharing custody of their kids, the duo is taking the help of mediators and business managers to split their reported $150 million worth of assets.
According to a perpetually unnamed source, the couple’s marriage was on the brink of collapse, with years of therapy having done nothing to salvage their relationship. This same source also said,
“Jennifer and Ben have been in therapy for years. They each go separately, and they also go together. When things are rough, they go more often.”
The sad news of the couple’s split comes after months of speculation about the state of their marriage. While Ben was spotted on a solo trip without his wedding ring, the sighting of moving vans at the couple’s family home in the Pacific Palisades added fuel to the rumors and pretty much sealed the deal.

The high profile stars met on the sets of Pearl Harbor and became friends. But when they starred together in Daredevil that they became close. Soon after, they began dating, in late 2004. By April 2005, they were engaged, with the wedding happening two months later in a private ceremony in the Turks and Caicos.
If you recall, the Gone Girl star, during his Oscar acceptance speech back in February 2013, thanked his wife for ‘working’ on their marriage. Gazing at a teary-eyed Garner, he said,
“I want to thank my wife … for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It is work, but it’s the best kind of work. And there’s no one I’d rather work with.”
Well, whatever ‘work’ both of them put in to their marriage, seems like it just wasn’t enough. We wish the family well and hope that they come through with this ordeal in one piece.
