Let it rip in front of your partner. Or so a new survey says.

Apparently, a couple who farts together stays together! Who knew, right?!

A relationship’s path is dotted with milestones that the couple celebrates – the first date, the first kiss, the first time doing it, the first fight, and even the first fart. Never thought to include that one in your relationship firsts, did you? However, a new survey conducted by Mic.com, suggests that it does.

Mic conducted a survey of more than 125 people in their 20s and 30s, and asked them when they thought would be ideal to start farting in front of their bae. And the survey had some really interesting points of note.

Here are some of the salient ones:

1. 29 percent of the respondents wait anywhere between two and six months into a relationship to fart in front of their partner. Also, this is the prime period where many say their I love yous.
2. 25.2 percent of the respondents said they wait six to 12 months, while 22 percent of them said they let it rip after just a few weeks into the relationship.
3. Only about 7 percent of them responded saying that they’d never fart in front of their partner.

However, many people wait for certain relationship milestones before letting it rip in front of their significant others. 7 percent of them prefer to have the I love you before farting and 18.6 percent wait for the other person to fart first. Of this latter category, i.e., those who wait for their partner to fart first, 73 percent are women.

Like any relationship milestone, farting in front of your significant other is an important one, albeit a funny one. It’s obvious that farting does bring a couple closer, for it’s quite an embarrassing bodily function, and if you are comfortable doing it in front of your partner, it sure means your relationship is on solid ground.

Whether you wait for the I love you to happen or for the other person to do it first, farting does bring a couple closer.
