Yes, it’s true. Selfie with girlfriend’s corpse!
A man in Nanning, Southern China, has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend, taking a selfie with her corpse, and posting the same on a local social network. The man, identified by the surname Qin, was arrested nine hours after several reports of the photograph captioned ‘please forgive my selfish love’ reached the local police.

It is believed that Qin had committed the murder on a whim after a lovers’ tiff and then, snapped the morbid selfie of himself next to his girlfriend Lin’s dead face, which was then posted on an unnamed Chinese social network site before it became viral. The pace at which it caught on led the local police authorities to look into the case and launch the manhunt that led to the arrest of Qin.

Photographs of the crime scene, as reported on Chinese media, mention a small patch of brown earth in a secluded woodland, a sheet of tarpaulin laid on the floor with two umbrellas laid on either side, and a handsaw near one of the umbrellas. The exact nature of the death hasn’t been established yet, and the case is still under investigation.
This disturbing news of a selfie with girlfriend’s corpse carries echoes of the twisted Russian social media craze of taking selfies alongside deceased people. The network has caught on and has more than 500 members who subscribe to this disgusting online mania by posing for selfies with the dead and posting them on the community network. In fact, ‘Selfie with the Deceased’ even hands out cash prizes for the best picture with a corpse – with £50 recently offered for a pic with the body of a 13-year-old Syktyvkar girl killed in a car crash. The only requisite is that the person taking the selfie wear a smile!!

When the parents of the deceased teenager told the local media about the grief this caused them and brought the matter to the attention of the local police, Syktyvkar police spokesman, Alexander Shidyusov, said that he was working on establishing whether a single person or a group was behind the nefarious activity and at such an early stage of the investigation, he is unable to comment on the legal repercussions that the community administrators and members would face.
