World renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz has done it yet again. The latest celebrity to join the league of A-listers who have shot for her Disney Dream Portrait series is Jessica Chastain. With her flowing red hair, splish-splashing like playful waves in the wind, the gorgeous star of movies like Zero Dark Thirty and The Help metamorphoses into the Scottish heroine Merida from Brave.

And in case your brain’s sending out ‘entry not registered’ errors right now, I will refresh your memory. The Disney Dream Portrait series by Annie Leibovitz attempts to recast celebrities as Disney characters, recreating our favorite magical worlds of fairytales and stories, with a spin on the blend of the REAL and the fantastical. Having first trickled into the public gaze in 2007, when Leibovitz partnered with Disney Parks and Walt Disney company to promote their Year of A Million Dreams campaign, the shoot received such an overwhelming response that the hungry fans keep asking for more platters and the passionate photographer in Leibovitz obliges.

Far from the kind of work Leibovitz usually engages in, these live-action versions of our beloved Disney characters have an element of realism injected into the wonder and magic of the setting of Disney – a stint that only a genius like Leibovitz could pull off with such perfection. As such, when Chastain joins the league of superstars Scarlett Johansson who is Cinderella rushing away before the clock strikes twelve, the brown-tressed Beyonce all set to impress as Alice, David Beckham who cuts a gallant figure as Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty, Russell Brand as the swarthy Captain Hook, the arch-nemesis of Peter Pan, the impeccable Alec Baldwin as the Magic Mirror from Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, and Jason Segel as Phineas, Ezra, and Gus, the Hitchhiking Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion, Taylor Swift as Rapunzel or the immensely beautiful Penelope Cruz as Beauty herself from Beauty and The Beast and many more, it is only an extension of the promise of a delicious recipe we just cannot seem to taste enough of.
And it isn’t merely out of our love for our favorite tales that these Annie Leibovitz photos ignite a fire in us that refuses to die down – it is the storytelling aspect of these tales that has been fantastically morphed into something even more ingenious, fanciful, and yet, all too real by Leibovitz’s lens that we have come to care so much about the final output. These Annie Leibovitz photos are simply amazing. Check them out here.
