1. Oil pulling

Oil pulling or oil swishing is a very ancient practice. People who follow Ayurveda religiously will know that oil pulling helps in increasing the strength of not just our teeth, but also oil gums and jaws. This, in turn, prevents tooth decay.
The technique gets rid of the oral bacteria, which automatically helps do away with the problems, thus brightening up the teeth.
Also, a 2009 study in the Indian Journal of Dental Research showed that the method of oil pulling can treat plague-caused gingivitis.
For this you need 2 teaspoons of sesame oil. Put it in your mouth and slowly swish it around. Keep swishing for around 20 minutes Now spit the oil out. You SHOULD NOT gargle with the oil, and also DO NOT swallow it.
Now with lukewarm water, rinse your mouth. You can add a pinch of salt in the water for the last rinse. Salt has anti-microbial benefits.
You should do this once every morning, before you eat anything.
Oil pulling can also be done using coconut oil.

2. Turmeric

Turmeric is second on the list. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory qualities which makes it a suitable remedy for stronger teeth and gums.
A study published in the Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology, in the year 2012, showed the turmeric can control plaque and prevent gingivitis when used as a mouthwash.
First, in a small cup take some water. Add a pinch of freshly ground turmeric in it. Mix to form a paste. Use this paste to brush your teeth. You should do this 3 times a week.
You can also take a teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it with half a teaspoon of salt. To this paste add half a teaspoon of mustard oil. Take the paste and apply it on your teeth and gum area regularly.
3. Guava leaves
Guava leaves help deal with periodontal disease says a study in Pharmacognosy Review of 2014.
Chewing these leaves also help get rid of bad breath.
All you got to do is chew some tender guava leaves. Make sure you clean them first. Also, do not swallow. Once you are done chewing, spit it out.
The other option is to grind the leaves. Use the paste to brush your teeth once every day. You may also make your own mouthwash at home with guava leaves. For this you will need about 6 leaves of guava, a cup of water. Boil the leaves in the water for 5 minutes. Now strain I and once it cools to room temperature, use it as a mouth rinse.
4. Indian lilac

Neem or Indian lilac is antibacterial which makes it such an important home remedy for teeth and gums. Also, neem is beneficial when it comes to treating gingivitis, say Periodontologists.
To use it as a remedy, grind 3 – 4 washed leaves of neem and form a paste. Now using this paste, brush your teeth once every day, for a week to see visible results.
You can also pluck a twig from a neem tree and brush with that for healthier and stronger teeth.
5. Green tea

According to the Archives of Oral Biology, green tea is a very valuable product when it comes to oral health.
Green tea contains fluoride and catechins which help destroy the bacteria in our mouth. It also contains polyphenols which help against cavities and gum inflammation.
Every day, drink about 3 cups of green tea. This improves oral health and strength of your teeth. You can even chew some green tea chewing gum if drinking it is a hassle.
6. Licorice
The root of licorice helps achieve healthier and stronger teeth. Licorice contains Licorcidin and licorisoflavan, which help kill oral bacteria, bacteria that cause tooth decay. As a result, you will also not lose your teeth prematurely.
All you will need for this home remedy is some licorice root powder that you can prepare for yourself by grinding dried licorice. Now use this powder to brush every day until you see results.

7. Basil

Take some fresh basil leaves and dry them in the sun. Now prepare a powder of the leaves. This powder should be to brush your teeth.
You can also chew 5 to 6 basil leaves every day or boil and cool basil leaves tea and use it as a mouth rinse.

8. Peppermint

It is also used in inhalations, baths or applications. It has got cooling and cleansing effect; soothes itchy skin, relieves inflammation. It has soothing and anti-spasmodic effect; relieves acidity, heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion and flatulence, also effective for travel sickness and nausea. It has cooling effect in case of varicose veins and hemorrhoids. Peppermint oil makes the mouth feel fresh and of course, makes the formula taste good. Peppermint oil can also increase salivation, which is useful because dry mouth may result in halitosis.”
To use it as a remedy, take some peppermint leaves. Add them in a glass of warm water. Leave it in for half an hour. Now strain the water and use it to wash your mouth. This should be done once every day.
You can also take a few drops of essential oil. Add it to a glass of water. Now use this water as your mouth wash.
Extra Tips
- Every three months, replace the old toothbrush.
- You should use a mouthwash that has no alcohol.
- Use a tongue scrapper once every two days. This will help get rid of the oral bacteria and toxins. This also prevents bad breath.
- You should dodge high-sugar foods to ensure the health of your teeth and gums.
- Never use your teeth to open bottles or cans.
- After every meal, rinse your mouth with warm water.
- Chew sugar-free gum to stimulate the production of saliva.
- Cheese reduces cavities. This is because it counterbalances the plaque acid in the mouth.
- Stop smoking. The smoke weakens the teeth.
- Take supplements for Vitamin D. But before doing that, do consult a doctor for proper dosage.
