Love isn’t just about here and now. It’s a promise that tomorrow, when the world shifts, when you’re different and so am I, when the faces we see in the mirror are not the same as the ones we see now, I will still have you.

It never fails to baffle me how merely seeing another person can light up your whole world.

18. Cecelia And The Satellite by Andrew McMahon

The best by far is you.”

They seem nothing short of a miracle of nature. And I know they say nobody is perfect, but I swear to God they haven’t met my SO.

19. My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion

I believe that the heart does go on.”

This has always been a classic. It tugged at our heartstrings in Titanic, and has always occupied a soft spot in our heart.

20. The Book Of Love by Peter Gabriel

“The book of love has music in it

In fact, that’s where music comes from

Some of it is just transcendental

Some of it is just really dumb

But I, I love it when you sing to me

And you, you can sing me anything.”

This song is genius. It didn’t glorify love, and portrays it in all its normalcy. Gabriel says that it’s complicated, and boring, sometimes, but there isn’t a chance of it not being beautiful.

21. You Are My Sunshine by Johnny Cash

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You’ll never know dear, how much I love you

Please don’t take my sunshine away.”

I first heard this song in the TV series, Boston Legal, and even in the most corporate of atmospheres, it made my heart swell. It speaks honestly.

22. Fix You by Coldplay

“Lights will guide you home

And ignite your bones

And I will try to fix you.”

That’s all you need, right? One band-aid-person on the Highway To Hell.

23. A Sky Full Of Stars by Coldplay

“Cause you’re a sky, ’cause you’re a sky full of stars

I wanna die in your arms

‘Cause you get lighter the more it gets dark

I’m gonna give you my heart.”

I call dibs on this as a wedding song. There’s something about it that brings out the desperately beautiful mess we all are.

24. I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For A Cutie

“If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied

Illuminate the no’s on their vacancy signs

If there’s no one beside you when your soul embarks

Then I’ll follow you into the dark.”

It’s us against the world, eh?

25. Love And Some Other Verses by Iron and Wine

“Love is a dress that you made

Long to hide your knees

Love to say this to your face

I love you only.”

This song almost hypnotizes you with how beautiful and calm it is.

No, they’re not just talking about procrastination. Sometimes, when the world gets too much, they help you escape.

A lot of times, they make you want to be better people, and that’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve witnessed in humanity.
