People are under the impression that when you are the eldest of your clan of siblings, you get to boss your younger ones around, you get your way with your parents, etc. However, for those of us who are actually in the position of being the first born, there are some struggles which are way too real.
- 90% of your conversation with your parents consists of “You never let me do that when I was his/her age.”
- You are always expected to fix things around the house because you are older.

- Your sibling has an iPhone at age 12 whereas you had to make do with a full set of sharpies in different colours at age 12.
- You are expected to know everything about your sibling’s homework and studies and help them out with it.

- Watching your siblings get permission for everything when you basically had to play mind games on your parents for a week to get permission for a sleepover is the most painful feeling ever.
- Living in perennial fear of your younger siblings ratting you out, compelling you to resort to blackmail and threats and even bribes.
- You have to do extra chores and run more errands because they are never “old enough,” so they can sit around watching TV.
- You basically have to act as a babysitter without pay, and even cancel your plans now and then to look after those brats.

- You sometimes have to take your sibling along to your friends’ parties and drive them around to half the places you couldn’t have gone when you were their age.
- Your parents experimented with you, and you were the subject of their weirdness and awkwardness, while your sibling is basically raised looking like a doe-eyed angel.

- They always get the bigger piece and the bigger portion or sometimes, even the whole dessert, while you have to act like an adult and nibble at your food.
- You are brainwashed into thinking that you are a third parent to your sibling, so you have to bear the burden of being a role model for them, without the chance or the excuse to be spoilt and fun and wild.

- You are responsible of introducing them to everything that is cool in the world, whether it is hipster clothing, good taste in music, social networking or anything else. (That may not be such a bad thing, now that I come to think of it).

- You have to bear the weight of all their secrets during their growing up years and even later, things that can never ever be told to parents.
And now that you come to think of it, you rather wish you had an older sibling to look up to and share all your stuff and all your secrets with.
