1. The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)

This is perfect for a date night because it has the quintessential suave hero, Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan), a millionaire who steals priceless pieces of art because he’s bored with his life, and the no-nonsense, sensible, beautiful investigator, Catherine (Rene Russo), who wants to catch him in the act. Put in a near impossible heist that the hero pulls off with chutzpah, a passionate affair between the thief and the investigator, and police force left to scratch their heads in bewilderment, the movie is a winner.

2. Dirty Dancing (1987)

Frances aka Baby, falls in love with a dance instructor while on vacation with her parents and elder sister. Obviously, her father opposes the relationship, but love, as they say, conquers all. Sigh! Plus there’s dirty dancing happening between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

3. The Notebook (2004)

While this book-turned-movie might be blamed for setting unexpected standards when it comes to love and romance among women, it’s a hit that can’t be left out of any list of date night movies. Rich girl falls in love with a small town poor boy. Then the inevitable family opposition happens, they’re separated, but meet again years later, while she’s engaged to another man. But she’s still clearly in love with the small town boy, plus, he’s built a dream house for her with blue shutters. Oh, and it’s Ryan Gosling in a wet white shirt. And lots of kissing and making out in the movie.

4. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Pat has just been released from a mental health institution, where he was placed after attacking his wife’s lover. He’s released into his parents’ custody. There he meets a widow, Tiffany, who is depressed and has relationship problems of her own. Sparks fly, a bunch of other things happen, but is the perfect blend of crazy meets crazier!

5. Hitch (2005)

Will Smith is the date doctor, who helps hapless men woo the women of their dreams with his magical formula. However, his own love life goes down the drain when he falls for Eva Mendes, a gossip columnist, who wants to uncover his formula to the world.

6. Jerry Maguire (1996)

‘You had me at hello.’ *sniff* Jerry Maguire, a sports agent, starts his own agency after he gets an attack of the conscience and exposes the illegal practices that exist in his field of work. Single mother Dorothy Boyd, follows him because she’s been in love with him for a long while. But he has just one client, who wants him to ‘show me the money!’ Watch it for its quirkiness and the unforgettable characters.

7. High Fidelity (2000)

Rob, played by John Cusack, is a record store owner and a compulsive list maker. He has been unlucky in relationships, but attempts to reconcile his relationship with Laura, who recently broke up with him. Equal parts laughing and deep contemplation, this is good for a date night.

8. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Can a man and a woman be friends, just friends? Apparently not, according to this classic rom-com. Whether you agree with the argument or not, this is worth watching for the fake climax scene that Meg Ryan acts out in a restaurant.

9. You’ve Got Mail (1999)

Again, a classic rom-com with a bit of Nora Ephron magic, this movie is one of the best movies on love in the internet era. The owner of a giant bookstore chain meets the owner of a quaint little bookshop online, and they fall in love. What follows is how they reconcile their business rivalry with their love. It’s a must-watch for a date night.

10. Cruel Intentions (1999)

If you’re looking for something naughty and sexy, this is the perfect choice. Wealthy step-siblings Sebastian and Kathryn make a wager involving innocent Annette, the headmaster’s daughter, and Sebastian’s vintage car. What follows is all kinds of steamy. Is the room getting hotter all of a sudden? *wink*

11. Pretty Woman (1990)

A super-rich entrepreneur picks up a hooker in LA so that she can accompany him to a few social events. However, he falls in love with her, and the huge gap in their backgrounds is obviously troublesome. But everything ties neatly into place in the end, making for an epic awww moment. *sniffle*

Secret assassins who are married to each other, are assigned to kill each other. But when they figure out that they have a common goal, they team up to take on the big baddie together. What ensues is one sexy ride, with adrenalin-pumping action to keep you company. Plus, the sizzling chemistry between the lead pair doesn’t hurt either.

13. Jurassic Park (1994)

If you clone dinosaurs and keep them in an amusement park, what would happen? Trouble of the gigantic variety, of course. Throw in a T-Rex, a couple of kids, and a paleontologist who can think on his feet, and you have a winner combination. It’s one of those classic date night movies that has just the right amount of every ingredient with makes it perfect.
