15 Songs From Shahrukh Khan Movies That Made Us Weak In The Knees! Sigh!

“Teri aankhon ki namkeen mastiyan
Teri hansi ki beparwaah gustakhiyaan
Teri zulfon ki leharaati angdaiyaan
Nahi bhoolunge hum
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan”

SRK, we love you!

I was 2 years old when DDLJ released and yes, I have been smitten since! That ‘bholi si surat, aankhon mein masti… aaye haye!’ The King of Romance made every one of us fall in love, all over again, not only through his movies and dialogues, but mostly, through the songs he lip synced! “Tum bore toh nahi ho rahe na? Thanks!” As the King of Romance turns 50 this November 2nd, we at NLT, have lined up 15 Shahrukh Khan songs, that make us weak in the knees, every single time! “Kuch kuch hota hai, Shahrukh, tum nahi samjhoge!”

From Divya Bharti to Anushka Sharma and Kajol to Deepika Padukone, the Baadshah has graced the silver screen with almost all the leading ladies for the last two and a half decades, and is still mesmerizing us with that dimpled grin! We, even today, can’t resist ourselves when he spreads his arms open in his signature step and beckons us to come, “Aur pass… aur pass!” He is and will be our adored King Khan, forever and always, and as far as my love for Shahrukh Khan is concerned, all I have to say to him is,

“Yaad rakhna ki duniya ke kisi kone mein koi khush hai, kyun ki tum khush ho!” :*

1. Suraj Hua Madhham, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, 2001

The iconic Pyramids of Giza and the inimitable Shahrukh Khan in a pastel sheer shirt – sigh! Magic, right? Halfway through the song, *SRK comes out of the water with that look in his eyes* and we all know our heart is throbbing. The lyrics of this song make it one of the most romantic Shahrukh Khan songs of all time!

“Saagar hua pyaasa, raat jagne lagi

Sholo ke dil mein bhi aag jalne lagi

Main thehri lagi, zameen chalne lagi

Dhadka yeh dil, saans thamne lagi

Kya yeh mera pehla pehla pyaar hai”

2. Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon, Yes Boss!, 1997

I literally drooled when Shahrukh Khan wooed Juhi Chawla in the stunning streets of Switzerland. I am sure you remember that train ride through the Alps, when both wear paper crowns? Yes, that’s the moment when Shahrukh became the ‘King of Hearts’!

“Tumko bulau

Ye palkhe bichhau

Kadam tum jahan jahan rakho

Zameen ko aasman banau

Sitaro se sajau

Agar tum kaho”

3. Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain, Pardes, 1997

Just an hour’s drive from one of the Seven Wonders of the World and the love legend ‘Taj Mahal’, this song was filmed in the fort of Fatehpur Sikhri. Together with the dreamy location, the song struck a chord immediately with the public, because of Shahrukh Khan looking oh-so-adorable in those suspenders! Though it was filmed on the other two stars in the movie, all that our eyes saw was SRK! Sigh!

Saanson me badi bekaraaree, aankhon me kayee raat jage

Kahee kabhee lag jaaye dil toh, kahee phir dil naa lage

Apna dil mein zara thaam lu, jaadu kaa main ise naam du

Jaadu kar raha, jaadu kar raha hai asar chupke chupke

Do dil mile rahe hain, magar chupke chupke”

4. Roshni Se, Asoka, 2001

Asoka was the first period film that Shahrukh featured in. However, the movie found a scintillating couple in SRK and Kareena; a couple that would burn silver screens in years to come. This song was where it all began!

“Dhunda hai dhunda hai tujhe akash upar tale

Shayad kisi nadiya pe chalta huwa too mile

Roshni se bhare bhare, bhare bhare naina tere

Chhuke bole naa chhuna mujhe”

5. Tere Naina, My Name is Khan, 2010

Shahrukh Khan, from the epiglottis, surprised us all again, as an autistic guy, who moves mountains for the love of his life and her child. The love story, one of its kind, had lovely melodies to complement the story and the chemistry between Shahrukh and Kajol, who made her comeback after quite a while with this movie. This is definitely the best among them all with SRK stalking his lady love in such an adorable way!

“Aahat khawabon ki
Chahat dhadkan ki
Unke kadmon ke hai yeh nishan
Chahe kuch na bolun
Chahe raaz na kholun
Yeh samajhte hain meri zuban”

6. Main Yahan Hoon, Veer Zaara, 2004

A love separated by man-made boundaries; Veer-Zaara has made me cry my eyes to a point where my Mom thought they would melt out! A story that had all the elements of a Shakespearean tragedy, except that it had a happy ending! Bonus, right?! Music by the Late Madan Mohanji proved once again that old is gold even when it comes to love! To be honest with you, I had a tough time choosing one song from the soundtrack of this film and picking this one was ‘Sophie’s Choice’ for me!

“Tum chhupa na sakogi main woh raaz hoon
Tum bhula na sakogi woh andaaz hoon
Gunjtaa hoon jo dil mein to hairaan ho kyon
Main tumhare hi dil ki to aawaz hoon
Sun sako to suno dhadkanon ki zaban
Main yahaan hoon, yahaan hoon,
Yahaan hoon, yahaan”

7. Mitwa, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, 2006

This track is one of the many Shahrukh Khan songs that make you want to leave all your troubles for a moment and dance to the beats of the music! A lovely composition by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, Shahrukh Khan banging his head in Mitwa, had to make it to this list!

“Teri nigaahen pa gayi rahe

Par tu yeh soche jaaun na jaaun
Yeh zindagi jo hai naachti toh
Kyon bediyon mein hai tere paanv
Preet ki dhun par naach le paagal
Udta agar hai udne de aanchal
Kaahe koi apne ko aise tarsaaye”

8. Tujhe Dekha Toh Ye Jana Sanam, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, 1995

Yes, this is one of the oldest and most popular Shahrukh Khan movies. It completed 20 years, but still glues us to the TV every time it makes an appearance! ‘Saarson ke khet mein’ romance at its best!

“Aankhe meree sapne tere, dil mera yade teree

O mera hai kya (la la la), sab kuchh tera (la la la)

Jaan teree sanse teree

Meree aankho mein aansu tere aa gaye

Muskurane lage sare gham

Tujhe dekha toh yeh jana sanam”

9. Dildara, Ra.One, 2011

Whether as the nerdy South Indian scientist or as the blue-eyed spiked haired robot, Shahrukh Khan had all eyeballs stuck to him when this song played in the film. P.S.: His reel son looked cute too! 😉

“O mehrma mere mehrma
O poori hai duaa
Abb kuch bhi toh kam nahi
Tujhe paa ke lage mukammal hai khuda”

10. Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hain, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, 2008

Suri and his alias Raj not only wooed Anushka Sharma but the million girls watching him with their hearts in their hands!

“Kaisi hain yeh doori, Kaisi majboori

Maine nazaron se tujhe choo liya.

Kabhi teri khushboo, kabhi teri baatein

Bin maange yeh jahaan pa liya”

11. Chal Chhaiya Chhaiya Chhaiya, Dil Se, 1998

This was probably one of the iconic songs in Bollywood history – the dance on top of a train – the lyrics penned by none other than Gulzar with the Madras Maestro A R Rahman composing it.

“Mai uske rup ka shehdayee, woh dhup chhanv se harjayee

Woh shokh hai rang badalta hai

 Mai rangrup ka saudayee

Jinke sar ko ishk kee chhanv, panv ke niche jannat hogee”

12. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kuch  Kuch Hota Hai, 1998

A college romance that gave a new twist to love triangles, and became a recipe for the romcoms to follow; this flick was stylish, cool, and yes, super romantic!

“Kya Rang layi meri dua, ye ishq jaane kaise hua
Becheneeyon mein chaiyn na jaane kyun, aane laga
Tanhayi mein dil, yade sanjota hai
Kya Karoon haye, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”

13. Saans, Jab Tak Hain Jaan, 2012

This song saw Shahrukh Khan involved in some terrific action between the sheets with Bhaijaan’s then-girlfriend, Katrina Kaif! Bold, indeed!

“Raat teri baahon me kate toh
Subah badi halki lagti hai

Aankh me rehne lage ho kya tum
Kyu chhalki chhalki lagti hai

Mujhko phir se chhu ke bolo
Meri kasam kya khaai”

14. Main Agar Kahoon, Om Shanti Om, 2007

This cool remake of Karz made us laugh and cry both at the same time! Shahrukh and Deepika, waltzing inside that crystal ball, made us all want to try that once with our boyfriends!

“Main agar kahoon
Humsafar meri
Apsara ho tum ya koi pari
Tareef yeh bhi to sach hai kuch bhi nahi”

15. Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha, Main Hoon Na, 2004

When you have Sushmita Sen draped (or not!) in a sexy saree under a waterfall, anybody can turn on the SRK within. Or can they? I’ll leave that for you to decide!

“Itni kyun tum khubsurat ho, ke sab ko hairat ho

Duniya me sach much hee rehatee hai

Pariyo se bhee jyada pyaree see ladki koi”

“If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn't brood. I'd type a little faster.” This Isaac Asimov line, embraces my love for writing in the finest and most desperate way that it is and should be! I was tormented by the earnestness of the written word not very early in my journey. But once smitten, it has helped me devour life twice over; savoring the moment and indulging in its memories. As a flâneuse, I wander to understand the intricacies of human relationships. Realizing that, they are just different manifestations of the same feeling of love, has been my greatest learning. I seek to share its opulence through the words I type.
